Individual & Relationship Therapy

MARILYN LAMMERT, BETHESDA THERAPIST: THERAPY FOR INDIVIDUALS, RELATIONSHIPS

I see a diverse group of people from different races, cultural backgrounds and national origins, religious beliefs, sexual orientations, and political persuasions who have diverse problems. Clients range in age from older teens to early eighties.

I start from the premise that each of us is whole from the beginning, basically good and fundamentally healthy. With this understanding we will work directly with what blocks the flow from within of what is really natural. Difficulties, while painful and often very hard, are part of life and can be openings depending on how we approach them.

A word about relationships and problems in relationships:  the quality of our relationships is central to our entire experience of life. Relationship stress, tension or conflict can make us feel hopeless or simply uncomfortable. My relationships give my life meaning, so when people want their important relationships to be better, I feel a strong connection to them.  This is true whether these connections are with a friend, family member, or life partner (whether heterosexual, gay, lesbian).

In our work together—whether as an individual or for relationship therapy, we will start with what brought you (both) to therapy, while always keeping in mind an image of what you are seeking.  We will focus on both outer and inner experience. The latter may include the kinesthetic–where body and mind meet. This meeting point often provides a gateway to the truth of experience. The wisdom we need can often be found here if we have help accessing it.

I connect deeply with the people I work with and will be focused both on your experience and my own as I listen carefully, deeply, and with compassion. Because of my own journey–having always taken advantage of times of personal distress to get to know various approaches to therapy and healing, I can travel the territory with you–without judgment.

I earned my MSW from Washington University, my doctorate from Johns Hopkins, did extensive post-graduate training in Gestalt therapy at the Gestalt Institute of San Diego and was certified in Integrated Kabbalistic Healing, with additional training in the practice of life coaching and Appreciative Inquiry.
